How this was put together

Every finding links to court records, government documents or reporting from established news outlets. Each carries a label for how solid it is, from a criminal conviction down to an allegation, and includes the person's response when one was reported. Nothing here says anyone committed a crime unless a jury found it. Cases still on appeal are marked.

What the labels mean
  1. ConvictedA criminal jury found them guilty.
  2. Found liableA civil jury ruled against them.
  3. Court ruledA judge ruled against them or their policy.
  4. Watchdog foundAn inspector general, Congress's auditors at the GAO or UN investigators.
  5. AdmittedThey acknowledged it, or their own government's records and court filings show it.
  6. On recordSomething they said or did in public.
  7. ReportedNews reporting they deny or haven't confirmed.
  8. AllegedAccusations in lawsuits, complaints or from sources. Unproven.

Civil or criminal?

A criminal jury decides whether someone is guilty of a crime, and it has to be sure beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil case the jury decides whether someone owes damages for harm they caused, and it only has to find that it’s more likely than not. “Found liable” means a jury heard the evidence and found that the person did it.

Trump has lost both kinds. In the first E. Jean Carroll case, all nine jurors had to agree, and after about three hours they found he sexually abused her. Separately, a Manhattan criminal jury found him guilty on 34 felony counts.
